Rev. Henry Keegstra, a minister of the Christian Reformed Church 41 years and editor 26 years of DeWachter, the weekly Christian Reformed magazine, died Monday on his 84th birthday at his home, 1786 Kinney Ave, NW.
Born in the Netherlands, Mr. Keegstra came to this country in 1890. He graduated from Calvin college and Calvin Seminary in June 1900, and was ordained in October of that year. He served as pastor of Christian Reformed Churches in Leighton, Iowa from 1900 to 1903, Allendale, 1903-1908; Fremont, 1908-1919; Holland, 1919-1928 and Allendale, 1928-1941. Since his retirement in 1941, he had made his home here.
Mr. Keegstra was a delegate to the Synod of the Christian Reformed church several times and in 1924 was elected secretary. He also served as vice president in 1926 and president in 1928.
Surviving are three sons, Enno and Alco of Grand Rapids, and Clarence of Allendale; two daughters, Mrs. Mrinus Arnoys of Jenison and Miss Gertrude Keegstra of Grand Rapids; four brothers, Nicholas, Peter, and Cornelius all of Grand Rapids and Frank of Muskegon, six grand children. Funeral services will be held Thursday in Alpine Avenue Christian Reformed church. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
