Horrible Murder in Harrington Township -

A man named Jacob Baker was arrested and locked up in the county jail on Wednesday, the 7th inst., for the atrocious assault on the wife Mr. J.E. Van Antwerp, which has since resulted in fatality.

Baker was employed on the premises of Mr. Van Antwerp, and was generally considered somewhat insane.

Some slight difference had arisen between the deceased and Baker during the evening, relative to the duties of the latter, and it is supposed that the prisoner revengefully assaulted the deceased, striking her with a stone, as when discovered, she was found to have sustained a severe fracture of the skull, also a deep cut over the right eye.

Mrs.Van Antwerp lingered until the following Friday, when death terminated her sufferings.

The deceased was a very estimable and worthy woman, and was much respected in her neighborhood.

Mr.Van Antwerp was absent from the house on the day of this fatal outrage.
