Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Shelden of Hyannis, Neb. arrived Saturday with the body of Mrs. Elizabeth Clair, mother of Mrs. Shelden. The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Saturday afternoon. The relatives present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Patton and two sons, two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Patton and their husbands, Mrs. Hugh Sheldon and daughter Sybil, all of Coggon, and Mr. Edward Hazeltine of Center Point, Iowa.
Elizabeth Hazeltine was born in Warren Co., Pa., July 28, 1829 and departed this life at Hyannis, Nebr., Sept. 2, 1908, being 79 years, 1 mo. And 5 days old. Deceased was married to L. D. (Levi) Ellis in 1848 (other records show 1853) and moved to Delhi, Iowa. They erected the first house on the plot of Delhi. Several children were born of this marriage, all of whom have preceded their mother to that fairer home on high with the exception of her eldest daughter, Mrs. A. E. (Nancy Jane/Jennie) Shelden. Mr. Ellis died December 25, 1875. In 1878 she was married to John Clair whose death occurred August 18, 1899. In January 1900 she removed from Delhi to Coggon, Linn Co., Iowa, and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Shelden, going with them to Hyannis, Nebr., the following year where she resided until her demise. Two brothers of deceased are living. E. D. Hazeltine of Center Point, who was present at the funeral, and B. F. Hazeltine, a resident of Old Mexico. A half brother is also living, J. H. King of Kingua, PA.
