George Elton Clark, 86, of route 2, Norman Park, died Thursday at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Alabany, Georgia following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. today at Norman Park First Baptist Church, with buriel in Deep Bottom Cemetery. The Revs. Jimmy Voyles and Paul Peace will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Horne, Carl Welsey Horne, Buddy Sutton, F.W. Galphin, Stan Hunter, Chandler Monk, A.J. Willis and Mark Roberts. Active and Inactive Deacons of Norman Park Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Clark was born in Colquitt County, Georgia on July 2, 1904, son of the late Rev. George Flournoy Clark and the late Sarah (Norman) Clark of Norman Park and Crosland.
He was a charter member of the Ga. Agirama in Tifton, Georgia and served as chairman of it's board. A retired Teacher, rural route mail carrier and farmer, he served on the Colquitt Co. Library Board, was past president of the Rural Mail Carriers, served on the Norman Park School board and served as secretary/treasurer of the Warrior Wildlife Board.
A graduate of Norman Park High School, Mr Clark attended Piedmont College, where he earned a doctorate. He also wrote books on the history of Crosland, Norman Park and Norman College, was a member of Norman Park Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon.
Mr. Clark's first wife was the late Helen (Cowan) Clark. He is survived by his wife Elva (White) Clark of Norman Park; a brother Earl Clark of Bessamer, Alabama; two sisters, Mildred Scott of Boston Georgia, and Essie Hall of N. Wilkesboro, North Carolina; and several neices and nephews.
