From Los Gatos (CA) Weekly Times-July 31, 2002 -- Same obit in July 10, 2002 Saratoga News (Saratoga, CA)
Phyllis Stepovich, who lived much of her life in Los Gatos and Saratoga, died June 25, four days before her 92nd birthday. A native of Willmar, Minn., Stepovich was a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Music, where she belonged to the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. She taught music briefly before moving to Los Gatos in 1935 with her family. Three years later, she married local attorney George
Stepovich, who preceded her in death. She was a member of PEO, an international philanthropic and educational women's organization, in which she made many friends. She was also active in the Los Gatos History Club, Montalvo Service League and Daughters of the American Revolution. Survivors include Marcia Stepovich of Nevada City; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Patricia Stepovich of Aptos; grandson Gregory Stepovich of Austin, Texas; siblings Marmion Bergtold of Los Gatos and Duane Reed of Corona Del Mar; and four nieces and nephews. Memorial services have been held. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1150 S. Bascom Ave., Suite 7-A, San Jose, 95128.

On a related note, Phyllis' father was Harold Ferdinand Porter (1882-1957), who was a prominent Los Gatos dentist. I'm surprised there aren't Find-a-Grave memorials for Harold and his wife Hazel (McCune) Porter (1886-1947). Here is a photo of them: http://historylosgatos.org/u?/BGF,6
