Daughter of Alexander Thompson and Sarah Womack.
Wife of Rev. William Hoover. They were married in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana on Jul 27, 1852.

Mrs. M.L.J. Hoover was a member of the Methodist Church since 1849; D.A.R. Lady Washington Chapter, Houston, Texas; U.D.C. Oran Roberts chapter, Houston; and United States Daughters of 1812, of which she was a member of the board. She read a paper on the recollection of Jefferson Davis on his birthdays, which was published in the Austin Statesman and in the Denton County Record. She was a personal friend of Jeffferson Davis and his wife and was her correspondent up to the time of her death.

Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, at one time filling the position of vice-president. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rensford Chapter, No. 135, Houston, and always took part in Masonic and religous work.

She was elected a member of the United Press Syndicate, San Francisco, Cal. and contributed several articles that were published. In 1910 she was a delegate to the Womens Jubilee World Missionary Meeting in Seattle with 1200 delegates from all parts of the world where the gospel has been spead.

She has often stated that a great many honors had been thrust upon her of which she felt unworthy. To follow the footsteps of the meek and lowly Jesus was to her the greatest crown and glory that any woman could wear. -- written by her daughter, Martha Amelia Hoover Hogue.
