Delores Marie Letourneau


Delores Marie Letourneau, long time resident of Ponca City, OK passed away on Thursday morning, April 28, 2011 at Via Christi Village Nursing Center. She was 81.

A Rosary will be held at Trout Funeral Home, Sunday evening at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Dan Letourneau, Msgr. Ed Weisenburger, Fr. John Mickalicka, and Fr. Joseph Schwarz.

Delores was born July 17, 1929 near Menlo, KS, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Mollering) Boeger.

She attended rural country schools until her family moved to Angelus, KS where she attended the eighth grade, taught by the Sisters of the Precious Blood.

She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1947 and then moved to Salina, KS to attend Marymount College School of Nursing. She graduated as a Registered Nurse and was first employed at St. John's Hospital.

She married Lloyd Letourneau at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina, KS on August 4, 1953. They moved to Manhattan, KS while Lloyd served in the Army at Fort Riley and Delores was employed at St. Mary's Hospital.

After his discharge, Delores and Lloyd moved to Ponca City, OK in 1955 where Lloyd was employed at Continental Oil Company. In 1968, Delores was employed as a Labor and Delivery nurse at St. Joseph's Medical Center. After retiring in 1986, Delores was later employed as a RN serving the patients at Highland Nursing Center.

Delores was a very active member of St. Mary's Church serving their many guilds and volunteering at St Mary's School activities while her children attended school.

She supported her children's love of music by serving on the Po-Hi Band Parents Association, while her children were members of the Ponca City HS Band and the OSU Cowboy Marching Band in Stillwater.

She loved traveling, visiting her grandchildren, and visiting her relatives in Northern and Western Kansas. She enjoyed gardening and participating in the Ponca City Garden Club Activities. Delores loved playing with her beloved cats: Muffins, Brownie, and Whitey.

Delores is survived by her husband of the home, Lloyd; son, Fr Dan Letourneau, Perry, OK; her daughters, Mary Letourneau, Bartlesville, OK; Janice and husband Jim Cupples of Friendswood, TX; Judy Bell of Haysville, KS; her four grandchildren, Chris and Ashley Cupples, D.J. and Brittany Bell. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Temaat, Oakley, KS., her sister Ann and husband Dale Nice, Derby, KS and brother Don and wife, Raecine Boeger, Grinnell, KS, and in-laws Jerome & Norlene Letourneau of Concordia, KS.

Delores was preceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Catherine Boeger, Brother, Clemens Boeger, Sister, Bernice Lang and brother-in-law Vern Lang, brother in-law Bill Temaat , sister in-law Patricia Letourneau, and in-laws William and Eda Letourneau.

Memorials may be designated for St. Mary's Catholic School Scholarship Fund.
