David G. Batdorf, 75, of Bonfield, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2013) at Presence St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.

Burial will follow in Bonfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Salina Township Fire Department or Bonfield First United Methodist Church.

He was born July 24, 1938, in Rochester, Minn., the son of George and Hazel Langland Batdorf. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959 and in the Marine Corps League. Mr. Batdorf retired from Gould National Battery, was a former member of Salina Township Fire Department and a medical courier for Alverno Labs. He was a trustee at Bonfield First United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Presence St. Mary's Hospital. He was a graduate of Herscher High School and Kankakee Community College, and attended Marycrest Business College. He loved woodworking and making toys, doing jigsaw puzzles and reading, especially history.

Surviving are his wife, the former Karen Sullivan, whom he married July 25, 1992, in Bonfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Beth Batdorf, of Kankakee, and Mark and Michelle Batdorf, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise and Barry Thomas, of Limestone, and Michele McCue, of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Pearl A. Evans, of Bonfield; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sondra and Owen Hertz, of Reddick, Jeannine Dunn, of Grant Park, and Midge and Bill Kissack, of Bartlesville, Okla.; and six grandchildren, Samantha and Leanna Thomas, Cade, Abby, Sonny and Lizzie Batdorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Judy Fromknecht.

Funeral services for David George Batdorf, 75, of Bonfield, were held Nov. 15 at Bonfield First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mel Neilsen officiated. Mr. Batdorf passed away Nov. 12, 2013. Burial was in Bonfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Barry, Samantha and Leanna Thomas; Mark and Darren B. Batdorf; Eugene, Rick and Steve Evans.
