Mrs. Burleigh's Funeral
Mrs. Lester Burleigh, Sr., nee Mary Schrewe, 77 years and beloved woman of Grand Coteau, died late Sunday evening in New Orleans. While in ill health for some time, Mrs. Burleigh's condition was not regarded as grave until Staturday when she became very ill.
Funeral services, which were largely attended, were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, Monday evening at 5 o'clock. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. Latiolais, S. J., with interment in the local Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were six of her sons, John, Henry, Hubert, Edgar, Lester, Jr., and Frances Burleigh and two sons-in-law, J. S. Barry and Charles Lavergne.
Mrs. Burleigh was a native and life long resident of Grand Coteau. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and possessed of a lovable disposition.
Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a year and a half ago.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Charles Lavergne of Lewisburg and seven sons, Henry Burleigh, Grand Coteau; John and Edgar Burleigh, Port Barre; Leo Burleigh, New Orleans; Lester Burleigh, Jr., Beaumont, Texas; Hubert Burleigh, Mound and Frances Burleigh, Sunset, and 14 grandchildren.
