She was born in Richland County, Wis., on Aug. 23, 1917, to Charles and Bertha (Bennett) Bateson. She married Alfred Earl Fries on September 18, 1936 in Rockford, Ill. She was a resident of Madison for seventy plus years and was a devoted homemaker. She was a crossing guard for nine years with the city of Madison Police Department. Helen loved playing cards, listening to music, dancing, and good cooked meals.
Helen is survived by daughters, Nancy (Frank) Provenzano of Madison, and Beverly (Jack) Fortney of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Mark (Sue) Provenzano, Jill (Dave) Trulson, John (Kristin) Provenzano, Lori Grenschaw, Kevin Church, Kelly Church, and Ryan (Michelle) Church; ten great grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Brett, Ellie, Derek, Kayley, Dylan, Tyler, Chloe, and Michaela; one great-great-grandchild, Kaliya; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Fries and Camilla Smith. Helen is preceded in death by husband; parents; and a brother, Donald Bateson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the CRESS CENTER, 6021 University Ave., Madison, WI. 53705 with services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Button Cemetery in Lone Rock Wisconsin at 3 p.m.
