Sometimes spelled "Hanscomb". Edward is listed at his marriage 1 Oct 1854 as "of Freedom", but there is no Hanscom family on the Freedom map of 1859. In the 1860 census in Brewer, Maine, Edward P. Hanscom is a ship carpenter, living with Matilda and Mary (age 5).
He was a Private, Co. H, 2nd Regiment, in the Civil War, and died 11 Aug. 1864, St. Louis General Hospital, New Orleans, LA, of chronic diarrhea.

Mary Elizabeth Hanscom was born in Freedom 30 Aug 1855.
