John Wallace Smith Sr. and Anna Marie Collins were riding in a car with their son Robert Franklin Smith on June 11, 1949. Robert was driving. About 6:30 PM they were hit by a drunk driver. Anna was killed instantly. John Wallace Sr. was taken to a hospital but nothing was found seriously wrong with him. No one realized he had broken a rib. On June 18, 1949, he sat at his kitchen table. The broken rib shifted and punctured his liver, killing him right there at the table at 5:40 PM.
