He was baptized at Hebron First Christian Church.
Earnie grew up in the Hebron area attending school and graduating from Hebron High School with the class of 1947. As a young man he worked at his parents' newspaper office (The Hebron Journal), raised rabbits for meat during WWII, and helped take care of his father when he suffered a stroke. He was always busy working on some sort of project, whether building dollhouses for every granddaughter or his last project, "tricking out" his wheelchair, complete with flag and bell.
After graduation, Earnie enlisted in the United States Navy serving from September 1948 to January of 1950 as an airplane mechanics' assistant.
Earnest married his high school sweetheart Wilma Ireland of Hebron on August 21, 1949. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons.
He worked as a parts Manager at several GM dealerships over the span of 30 years, including Kizzier's in Kearney, NE. He also worked for Wal-mart in Longmont, CO and in Lincoln, NE, he was a determined and industrious worker.
Earnie enjoyed people, never knowing a stranger, telling stories, jokes and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Cornhusker fan, loved animals, and liked watching wrestling on TV.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald and granddaughter Erin Danielle.
He is survived by his wife Wilma of Kearney, NE, sons Dan and wife Gay of Kearney, NE, and Dennis and wife Jean of Medford, MN, granddaughters; Caitlin Mueller and husband James of Lincoln, NE, Megan Fleischman and husband Bill of Lincoln, NE, Lindsay and Brittany Correll of Medford, MN, four great-grandchildren; Owen and Eli Mueller and William and Erin Fleischman, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the First Community Church in Hebron,NE at 2:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Speichinger, organist Judy Kassebaum, congregational hymns : "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", Amazing Grace", and How Great Thou Art", casket bearers; James Mueller, Bill Fleishman, Tom Torbeck, Marlow Huber, Bob Corliss, and Ray Henning,visitation will be two hours before the service at church, burial will be in Hebron City Cemetery, military graveside by Hebron American Legion Saxton Post #180. Memorials are in care of the family. Hebron Memorial Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
