MILLPORT, Ala. — Jean Alice Morton, 68, died March 15, 2009, at Druid City Hospital–Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery in Millport. The body will be at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. Dowdle Funeral Home of Millport, Ala., is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Morton was born Dec. 19, 1940, to the late Anthony and Bessie Hood Shanklin. She was a lifelong resident of Millport. She was a nurse for 23 years and had worked at Vernon Hospital, Golden Triangle Regional Medical Center and Aurora Nursing Home. She was a member of New Grove Baptist Church in Kennedy, Ala. She is survived by her husband, A.V. Morton of Millport; daughter, Gwen Montgomery of Northport, Ala.; sons, Michael Shanklin of Victorsville, Calif., Rodney Morton of Millport, Greg Morton of Northport, Ronald Morton of Watertown, N.Y., and Donald Morton of Columbus; stepdaughter, Janice Cobb of Millport; stepson, Steve Washington; sister, Mary Ella Watson of Millport; brother, John Shanklin of Ethelsville, Ala.; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Eric Guy, Jermaine Willis, Christopher Washington, Jeff Hayden, Ryan Walker and Bob Stevenson.
