DOVER Sherman L. Becker, Jr., 82, entered into rest at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Genesis Health Care in Gettysburg. He was the loving husband of Ruth I. (Wentz) Becker. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage on September 1, 2013. Sherman was born July 8, 1931, in York, a son of the late Sherman L. and Beulah V. (Jacobs) Becker, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Sherman retired in 1995 following 25 years of service as a carpenter for York Casket. He was previously employed by the Kunkle brothers in Dover and Floyd Shoemaker, Dover. Sherman was a member of Bermudian Church of the Brethren in East Berlin. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy S. Becker and wife Barb of Gettysburg; a son-in-law, Wayne Stermer of Red Lion; a granddaughter, Amy Stermer; two step grandsons, Mike and Eric Wilt; several step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nadine Schleter of York. Sherman was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra J. Stermer. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Sherman's funeral at 10 a.m. and the viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Bermudian Church of the Brethren, 279 Bermudian Church Road, East Berlin. Burial will follow in Bermudian Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Larry Dentler. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is in charge of arrangements.
