John W. Downey enlisted in the Co. E 191st Ohio Volunteer Infantry in Feb 1865. He served for just over 3 months & was discharged in June 1865. He married Nancy Snider Ferree on March 6, 1868. Together they had 3 children: Cora, Wilbur Thomas & Sarah. Her 1st husband, Richard Ferree, died in Andersonville Prison in 1864. He married his second wife, Ella A. Griffis, on 9 Sept. 1898. They only had two years together before John died. As a Union Civil War Veteran, John W. Downey was provided with a marble headstone.
