Mary Elizabeth Barth was born June 21, 1921, in Greene, Butler County, Iowa a daughter to Albert and Clara (Kingery) Barth and passed away on October 26, 2013, at Mercy Medical Hospital-North Iowa, in Mason City.

She received her education in Greene and continued her education in Mason City at the Hamilton Business College.

Upon completing her education Mary moved to the Washington, D.C. area where she was employed as a secretary. It was there she met and married her husband, Earle Hyers, on November 29, 1943. They eventually moved to the Chicago area where they raised their 3 children. Mary retired from secretarial work at Proviso West High School, and returned to her home town of Greene in 2004. Mary was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Greene.

Throughout her life Mary was very athletic. She loved to bowl and participated in numerous bowling tournaments.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earle W. Hyers in 1982; one daughter, Mary Lynn Stewart; one brother-in-law, Ralph Litterer; and her parents
Funeral services for Mary Hyers, 92, of Greene, will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. Greene.

Mary is survived by a son Donnel (Peggy) Hyers of North Adams, MA; a daughter Linda Creek of Ottumwa, IA; step-son Robert (Betty) Hyers of Harwood, MD; 8 grandchildren: Jay Stewart, Dawn Stewart, Douglas (Kris) Stewart, Eric(Nicole) Hyers, Anne Hyers, Jennifer (Chris) Hawkins, Ryan (Amy) Creek, Ashley (Kyle) Gunnels; 9 great-grandchildren: Keeley Brewington, Kyle Brewington, Makenzie Gunnels, Michael Stewart, Kaine Stewart, Nicholas Delaney, Katlyn Delaney, Joshua Walker, Tommy Walker; two sisters: Marjorie Barth and Ardys Litterer both of Greene; many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earle W. Hyers in 1982; one daughter, Mary Lynn Stewart; one brother-in-law, Ralph Litterer; and her parents.
