Richard E. Coffey,75, Taylorville died October 20, 1998 at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Taylorville.
He was born March 1, 1923 in Stonington, a son of Elmer and Minnie Bliler Coffey. He married a first time but it ended in divorce. He married Jeanette Alcorn Durbin May 25, 1975 in Taylorville. He retired as a heavy equipment operator for 35 years at the Christian County Landfill and Local 965. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stonington, the Stonington American Legion, VFW Post 4495 and Nation Rifle Association. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife Jenette, a daughter Mrs. Bruce (Nanc) Briggs of Stonington; step- son Leonard Durbin of Kincaid; step-ddaughter, Karen Hall, Tyalorville; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Porter of Taylorville; Lillian Boldini, Stonington; two brothers, Leon Coffey, Stonington and Leland Coffey of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lynn Coffey; sisters, Mary Shewmaker, Jean Ribelin, Lois DeVore and Maxine Erwin; and one grandchild.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 24, 1998 in Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville. Rev. Tiney Walker will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Joel Lohr. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery with full military rites.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Casketbearers were: Brad Porter, Kenny Porter, Steve Boldini, Leon Coffey Jr., Mark Ribelin and John Erwin. Honorary bearers were: Orlando Menossi and Bill Lahr.
