In 1947, he graduated from Ashland High School. On October 18, 1952, he married Marion L. Johnson.
Art served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 20 years and was called to active duty in October of 1961. Arthur was the owner of Ahlstrom Skelgas Sales from 1950 - 1957.
Prior to retiring in 1992, he worked for the Ashland Water Utility. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Teacher, youth advisor, church board member and also sang in the choir. Art was a member of the Chequamegon Area Choir, for many years. He enjoyed camping, traveling with his family, taking bus tours and doing circle word puzzles.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Eggerud, Kenosha; son-in-law, Fred Fisher, San Antonio, TX; special daughters, Therese Lachecki and Deb Topley, both of Ashland; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; daughter, Jody Fisher; and a son, Kevin Ahlstrom.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Salem Baptist Church, in Ashland, with Pastor Rodney Larson officiating.
Graveside and United Chequamegon Veteran services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, in Ashland.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, on Wednesday, at Salem Baptist Church, in Ashland.
Memorials may be made to the Salem Baptist Church or to Brick Ministries.
