She graduated from Northwest High School in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee in 1974 and went on to attend Austin Peay State University, majoring in physical education.
Karen was married 1st on August 27, 1977 at the Church of the Nazarene in Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee to Kenneth Edward Russell, and they were divorced on July 5, 1979 in Bell, Texas. She was married 2nd in May 1981 in Texas to Lieutenant Colonel John R Scuba.
A retired US Army Captain and formerly of Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee, Karen was 35 years old, married and living in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas when she died on May 24, 1992.
Survivors included her father in Louisiana, mother in Clarksville, her husband in San Antonio, brother in Clarksville and three sisters, all on Clarksville.
Funeral Services were held at Sykes Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, with full Military Honors.
