MARION, Va. Hazel Duncan Atkins, 90, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Francis Marion Manor. Born on February 4, 1923, to Flossie and Edd Duncan in Draper, Va., she was a long time faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was retired from Baldwin's Department Store, after which she had been a faithful volunteer with the Smyth County Community Hospital Auxiliary, where she worked more than 7000 hours before failing health prevented her from continuing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harlow Cameron Atkins. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Archer of Marion, Va.; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Jane Atkins of Forest, Va., and Dennis and Sharon Atkins of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Imogene Duncan of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Pedie Duncan of Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren, Shannon Archer and wife, Kathleen, of Bluffton, S.C, Travis Archer and wife, Kelly, of Wytheville, Va., Chris Archer and wife, Whitney, of Bristol, Va., Chris Atkins and wife, Barbara, of Lynchburg, Va., Terri Turner and husband, Ian, of Bradenton, Fla., and Krystal Taylor and husband, Billy, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Mr. Brian Cregger officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, Va. Family will receive friends before the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 115 South Church Street, Marion, VA 24354.
