Malinda Inez (Baggett) Mayfield was born on December 10, 1917 in Montgomery County, Tennessee, the daughter of Allan "Houston" Baggett (1896–1960) and Mary Ann (Reynolds) Baggett (1893–1985).

She was married to John Dewey "J D" Mayfield (1918–1990), who was the son of John Clinton Mayfield (1890–1974) and Theora (Law) Mayfield (1887–1956).

Malinda was a supervisor at South Central Bell and a member of the Telephone Pioneers and First Baptist Church. Living at 645 Dean Road in Clarksville, Malinda was 69 years old when she passed away on May 7, 1987 at Memorial Hospital.

Survivors included her husband J D in Clarksville, a son in Greensboro, North Carolina and a son in Clarksville, Tennessee, a daughter in Clarksville, brothers H E Baggett of Grand Rapids, Ohio and Joseph C Baggett of Surf City, North Carolina, sisters Helen Williamson and Eva Sturgeon in Detroit, Michigan, Lillie Cox at Canton, Ohio, Ellen Jacobs of Surf City and Agnes Woodcock in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on May 9th at the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, and burial was in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Clarksville.
