Hildegard Katherine Koch was born on April 21, 1909 in Melrose, MN to Bernard and Mary (Enneking) Koch. She was united in marriage to Harry Black on October 29, 1936 in Osakis, MN. They lived in Little Falls in the early years of their marriage and then moved to Osakis when they purchased a resort on Lake Osakis in 1941. The Black's ran their resort for many years and Hil worked tirelessly doing the bookings, cabin cleaning and running the store. They looked forward to wintering in Texas and Mexico after the busy resort season was over in Minnesota.
Hil was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis and belonged to the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella. The Blacks were also members of the Alexandria Resort Association, the Osakis Lake Association and belonged to a snowmobiling club. Hil was a woman of many talents, but especially enjoyed oil painting and doing crafts. She liked to travel, garden, quilt and get out on the lake fishing with Harry. She was a long time business owner and resident of Osakis who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Hil is survived by her brother, Bernard & Rita Koch of Alexandria; two sisters, Clara Stadtherr of Sauk Centre and Winnifred Sarrack of White Bear Lake, MN; a brother-in-law, Melvin Spaeth and two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Kortenbusch and Edna Koch; many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, Harry in 2006, 4 brothers, Alphonse, Raymond, Norbert and Lawrence Koch; 4 sisters, Hannah Friedrichs, Loretta Vogel, Rosemary Spaeth and Valaria Patterson.
A Mass of Ressurection will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis with Fr. Ralph Zimmerman officiating.
