Loretta C. Bartels Drees, the oldest of four children of Herman F. and Frieda Endorf Bartels, was born on April 15, 1916 at Tobias, Nebraska. On May 7th of that year she was baptized in the Christian faith at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Tobias. She was confirmed in the same church on April 13, 1930 by Pastor W.G.
