Henry J. Oberdick Passed Away Friday, September 21
Funeral services for Henry J Oberdick, well known resident of the village for many years, were held Monday afternoon, Sept 24 at the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Butterfield with Rev. Edwin Schmelzer officiating at the last rites.
Two months ago Mr. Oberdick's health began to fail and as his illness became more serious he was taken to the Bethel hospital in Mountain Lake, where he died at the age of 83 years, 11 months and one day on Friday, September 21st.
Pallbearers were his six grandsons, James Teigland, Glenn Miest, Allan Syverson, Derald Coffin, Warren Schwietert and Herbert Teigland. Interment was made in the Butterfield cemetery.
Henry J Oberdick was born October 20, 1867, to John and Wilhelmina Oberdick in Nicollet county, Minnesota and was baptized in his early childhood in the Lutheran church. He received his schooling at Willow Creek, Minn, and grew to young manhood. He was confirmed at St. John's Ev. Lutheran church in Willow Creek on April 18, 1888.
On November 28, 1890 he was united in marriage to Bertha Pufahl at South Branch, Minn, and they farmed in Martin county after their marriage until 1896, when they moved to a farm near Odin in Long Lake township. In 1914 they moved to Butterfield, where he lived until his death.
He was an active member of the St. Matthew's Lutheran church of Butterfield and last year he and his wife celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife and seven daughters: (Minnie) Mrs. L.A. Teigland of Delavan; (Clara) Mrs. George Miest of St James; (Sophia) Mrs. John Syverson of Odin; (Alvina) Mrs. James McDonough of Minneapolis; (Amelia) Mrs. Jesse Coffin of Butterfield; (Alma) Mrs. A.E. Schwietert of Butterfield; and (Agnes) Mrs. Alois Grund of Mountain Lake. He is also survived by two sisters, two brothers, 23 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
