Alfred E. Kattau, died on November 8, 2013 surrounded by his family.

Beloved husband of Anna Virginia Kattau (Walsh), loving father of Jo-Ann Kattau, Mary (Chris) Johnson, Cathleen (Robert) Parkes, Colleen Kattau (David Pandori), James (Theresa) Kattau, John (Helen) Kattau; cherished grandfather of Kara Kattau, Kristen Caputo, Patrick Kattau, Kelley Yousik, Kimberly Kattau, Ryan Johnson, Lauren Whitehead, Eric Johnson and J.P. Whitehead; great-grandfather of J.J. Yousik, Emma Yousik, Amari Kattau, Brendan Kattau.

Al joined the North Patchogue Fire Department in 1942 after serving two years in the Juniors. The firehouse was a second home to him where he formed many lifelong friendships. In 2007, after 71 years of service, Al was named Honorary Chief.

Al supported his family working in the floor covering business and retired in 1987. He loved to keep busy and in addition to his duties with the Fire Police, he worked for Patchogue Floral and later became a bus aide where he was a favorite of the children he took care of.

Much wisdom and humor lived within this soft-spoken, gentle man who was a whiz at trivia, sports and one-liners even in his last days. Al & the love of his life, Virginia celebrated 66 years of marriage this past June.

Reposing at Robertaccio Funeral Home, Patchogue, NY. Funeral Mass at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
