Son of Daniel Epps "Epps" Burnham and his second wife, Mary Polly (Kingman) of Bridgton, Maine.

On November 27, 1852 in Bridgton, Augustus married Zilpha Trott (Bisbee). They resided in the stone house on Burnham Road in Bridgton, Augustus a farmer. They had a daughter who died young.

After Zilpha's death, widower Augustus resided with his brother, Albert Foster Burnham, in Ellsworth.

The granite stone house in which they resided in Bridgton was built circa 1830 by John Mead, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Daniel Epps Burnham, Augustus' father, was born in Gloucester, Mass., a son of Daniel Burnham and Elizabeth (Giddings). By 1800 Daniel and Elizabeth Burnham moved with their children from Mass. to Bridgton, Maine, where more of their children were born.
