Wilbur Glenn Berkey, 96, of Scottdale, passed away 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, in the Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe. Wilbur was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Scottdale, a son of the late Charles and Lydia (Starkey) Berkey. He was married to Ruth (Smith) Berkey, who passed away Dec. 4, 2002. Wilbur was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from the former Allegheny Power/West Penn Power, where he had been employed as an equipment tester for 35 years. Wilbur was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Scottdale and a graduate of Scottdale High School, class of 1935, where he served as a male cheerleader. His passion was music, as he played bass fiddle for the Delmars and other bands for many years. He was a life member and vice-president of the Greensburg Musical Society, Local No. 339 of the American Federation of Musicians. He also enjoyed going out dancing! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Edmond Berkey.
