Obituary: "Amos Diller one of the oldest and best known residents of our borough, died at his home in the western part of town, on Saturday evening, at the advanced age of nearly eighty three years. His death was due to a general breaking down of the system owing to his advanced age. Up to within a few weeks before his death he had been remarkably active and well-preserved both in body and mind. Mr. Diller was born in New Holland, and spent all his life time here with the exception of a few years in the beginning of his business career. He first began storekeeping at a country store several miles north east of town, near the Conestoga. After being in the business there a few years he removed to New Columbia, Union county, where he kept store for a year. From there he came back to Lancaster county, and located at Vogansville where he remained a few years when he removed to New Holland and opened a store in the western part of town in a building adjoining the residence now occupied by Ellis Groff. He continued in business there a number of years when he entered into partnership with Philip Brubaker, in the store at present occupied by E. C. Diller & Son. Later Mr. Brubaker retired and Mr. R. S. Brubaker became associated with him, and subsequently Mr. Diller retired, his sons E. C. and Wm. G. taking his interest in the establishment. In his long business career Mr. Diller was very successful, and in general affairs he was public spirited and progressive. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. He was the surviving member of the first board of Trustees of the New Holland Free School Fund, under the act of April 21, 1857, the other members of the first board having been Solomon Diller, Paul Mentzer, Wendell Holl and Solomon Diffenderfer, who have all be deceased for some time. Mr. Diller was twice married and his last wife and one son by his first wife, Mr. E. C. Diller, survive him. The funeral of the deceased was held on Wednesday morning and a large number of relatives and friends were in attendance. Rev. F. F. Buermeyer, his pastor, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. J. W. Hassler and Rev. M. A. Salt." [New Holland Clarion, Saturday, May 25, 1895, page 1]
