TONASKET - James Harold "Ole" Drew , 84, Tonasket, died Friday, January 20, 1989 in Ferry County Memorial Hospital, Republic.
He was born September 24, 1904, in Marshall County, Minnesota. His family moved to the Okanogan Valley when he was a boy, homesteading at Horse Spring Coulee near Loomis. He attended Whitestone School and the family later moved to Siwash Creek near Tonasket where he also attended school. He participated in all sports and was a member of Tonasket's first tackle football team.
Mr. Drew worked for Drew Brothers Blacksmith Shop and later in the mines in Idaho. He married Edith Hill on July 1, 1932 at Waterville, and the family later moved to Tonasket. He did mechanic work for the Chevrolet Garage, the Ford Garage, and then was a bus mechanic for the Tonasket School District. He also drove a school bus during these years. He retired in 1968.
Mr. Drew was a charter member of the Tonasket Eagles.
Survivors include wife Edith Drew of Tonasket, son Skip Drew of Spokane, daughter Joelle Hawkins of Tonasket, sister Bernice Halterman of Portland, Oregon, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents William H. Drew and Mary Effie Peterman Drew, brothers Philo Drew, Riley Drew, and Rusty Drew, and sisters Hazel Anderson and Lois Howe.
