Eldon Lewis Stearn, born February 13, 1926 age 85, of Level, MD died on January 20, 2012 at his home from complications of cancer and stroke. Born in Level, he was the son of the late Annie May Hughes and Leonard Winfield Stearn, Sr. He served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946. He retired after 37 years from Aberdeen Proving Ground where he was a Weapons Repair Foreman. He was a Past Master of Stephenson Lodge # 135 in Darlington, MD and a member of Tall Cedars Har-Ce Forest 142. He was also a member of the Odd Fellowes Mizpah Lodge IOOF 66 and the American Legion. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a life-long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, crabbing, traveling, camping and especially carpentry. He loved building, fixing and doing things for others. Mr. Stearn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Mildred Bauer Stearn; two daughters, Carol Vitak and husband, John, of Level and Janet Kippenberger and husband, Donald, of Bulverde, TX.; three grandchildren, Michelle Deaner and husband, Richard, of Aberdeen, Anthony Vitak and wife, Amy, of Havre de Grace and Danielle Stockhurst and husband, Joe, of New Braunfels, TX.; and three great-grandchildren, Sean Deaner of Aberdeen and Natalie and Nicholas Vitak of Havre de Grace; brothers Kenneth Stearn of Aberdeen, Harold and Vernon Stearn of Level, and sisters Hazel Coen of Level and Esther Carr of Boiling Springs, PA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by brothers, Leonard Stearn, Jr and Carl Stearn and sisters, Myrtle Mahan, Mildred Laye and Nettie Insley. Pallbearers were Vernon Stearn, John Vitak, Donald Kippenberger, Anthony Vitak, Rick Deaner, and Daniel Stearn. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth and Harold Stearn.
