Veteran, Dies
Leon D. Smith, an area resident for 20 years, died yesterday in Cortland Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith, 72, resided 33 Greenbush St.
He was bom Dec. 5, 1901, in Smithville Flats, the son of Arthur and Effie Beadel Smith. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War I and World War II.
Surviving him are two brothers, Edward D. of Liverpool and Everett B. Smith of Bainbridge; one sister, Mrs. Gladys Eaton of Willet and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Darrell Westlake officiating. Interment will be in Cortland Rural Cemetery. Friends may call Friday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
