Found in The State 13 March 1939: Maxie C. Sligh, 48, of Columbia, died at Oteen, N. C., at 6:45 last night. He was a World war veteran, serving in the navy during the war. Mr. Sligh is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruth Ted Sligh; one son, Joel A. Sligh of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Lucia and Claudia Sligh of Columbia; one brother, W. H. Sligh, Washington, D. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Holt Harris, Asheville, N. C., and Mrs R. O. Thackham of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted from Dunbar Funeral home at 5 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the Richland post of the American Legion.
