Alton Democrat dated Feb 28, 1920, p. 7, col 1: “Last week Thursday morning the community was shocked to hear that death had suddenly claimed Mrs. G. A. DeVries. She went to bed well and a few minutes afterwards expired. She complained of pains in the chest and her husband immediately called his daughter and son-in-law by phone. She died however, before they were able to arrive.”
