Christ Zundel , was North Dakota's seventh victim of severe storms the winter of 1937. Christ, 50, and Mike Heidinger, a neighbor, were hauling a load of coal from Diesem to the Zundel farm when the tragedy occurred. The rubber tired vehicle lodged in drifts and the horses floundered, a mile and a half from the Zundel home. Both men first attempted to walk the distance, but Mr. Zundel tired and returned to the wagon. Heidinger wandered for six hours before finally finding shelter at the Fred Wegenast farm less than a mile away. Mr. Heidinger was badly frozen. Mr. Zundel was survived by a wife and several children. The funeral was postponed until later in the week due to blocked roads.
