Olive Paxton Dulles Glidden of Newcastle, Maine, formerly of Englewood, died Friday, January 26, 1990.
She was 83 years old.
She had been a nationally ranked tennis and squash player and a national bridge champion.
The 1930 census shows Olive living at 360 West 245th St. in Bronx, New York with her 1st husband William W. Dulles, Sr. who was a lawyer. Also in the home at the time were their children William jr (age 4) and Edith (age 3.) Two servants lived in the home at the time also. Frieda Reuter (age 22 who was born in the US and could read and write) and Emilie Sieling (age 18 who was born in Germany and could not read or write.)
In 1930, according to US immigration authorities, Olive traveled to Germany. Records show on Sept. 25, Oct. 5, 1930 that she returned from Germany (departing from Breman which is located on the Wesser Rivers which leads to the North Sea. She traveled on the S/S and arrived into the port of New York 10 days later on Oct. 5, 1930.
Surviving are two sons, William W. Dulles Jr. of Savannah, Ga., and Nathaniel F. Glidden III of Seattle; two daughters, Carvel G. Short of Round Pond, Maine, and Edith S. Berky of Dorset, Vt., and 14 grandchildren.
