Duane R. Bloomfield, 71, of Midland, and former Sanford resident, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 22, 1995, at the MidMichigan Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Kent City, the son of the late Ray O. and Goldie V. (Sweebe) Bloomfield. He moved to Midland as a young child and attended schools here. He married the former Margaret Friedle on Aug. 4, 1943, in Midland. he worked at the Dow Chemical 10 years and had worked in construction as carpenter. Duane served with the United States
Army during World War II and was a commissioned a Second Lieutenant at the age of 19. He was discharged from the service in 1944. He enjoyed golf and umpiring baseball and softball in Midland. He was a member of the Midland Moose Lodge No. 1541 and a member of the Legion of the Moose and a long time member of the Sanford American Legion Post No. 443.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Billie Bloomfield of Sanford, Dwight A. and Jill Bloomfield of Bentbrook, Texas and Stuart and Barbara Bloomfield of Sanford; one brother, Donald and Jeanette Bloomfield of Midland; one sister, Ruth O'Connor of Midland; by seven grandchildren, Carrie and Sarah Bloomfield, Angie and Chris Townsend, Dean and Todd (Shannon) Bloomfield and Jaye and Scott Baker; by on great grandson, Travis Townsend; and by several stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Robert Bloomfield.

Funeral services for Duane will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 1995, from the Ware-Smith-Woolever & Co. Funeral Chapel. Rev. Fr. Frank Voris will officiate with burial in Sanford Cemetery. Duane's family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the donor's favorite charity. Full military services for Duane will be conducted under the auspices of the Sanford American Legion Post No. 443.
