"Matt" Allison, age 81, of Bristol, died Sunday, March 21, 1999 in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home. Mr. Allison was a native of Saltville and had lived in the Bristol area for the past 41 years. He was a retired employee of TVA and attended Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he had received numerous decorations and citations, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a life member of the DAV Chapter 40. Survivors include his wife, Betty Blaylock Allison; one son, Jeff Allison, Bristol; three sisters, Nancy Ledbetter, Sally Cardwell and Kansas Marshall, all of Saltville; one brother, Jim Allison; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 23, at 8 p.m. in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Statzer and the Rev. Paul Broyles officiating. Graveside services will be conducted today, March 24, at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the DAV Chapter 40. Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol is in charge of arrangements.
