Richard John Holt, 69, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital in Murphysboro.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Ken Eaton officiating. Burial will be in the Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and until the hour of service Tues-day at the funeral home.

Mr. Holt was a retired switchman for 30 years with the ICG Railroad.

He attended the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro and was a member of the American Legion Post 127 of Murphysboro.

He was a US Army Frontline Medic in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Holt was born on March 29, 1930, in Energy, to Richard James and Della (Hutchins) Holt.

He married Beverly J. (Bushnell) Hamilton, June 24, 1951, in Murphysboro. She survives of Murphysboro.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah A. and Alex "Skip" Frey of Makanda and their son, Kevin Frey of Jaffrey, N H.; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard James "Jim" and Joni Holt and their son, Vincent Holt of Phoenix; and three sisters, Elizabeth Holt of Murphysboro, Ruth Barber of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Peggy Akin of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
