Here is some interesting information about Michael: He was born at Lot 11, Con 10 of Ashfield, Huron County, Ontario along withhis four brothers and four sisters. Daniel, Elizabeth, Agnes, Valentine, Mary Anne, Jeremiah, Catherine and David. In 1874 His dad Valentine (he had a brother by that name too) bought 50 acres at Lot 5, Con 11 and in 1874 Michael bought it. He moved here with his new bride Elizabeth Daniels in 1886, in 1899 he bought another 50 acres on the same lot. In 1903 Michael sold the 100 acres and moved west to Edmonton with his wife and one son Birton. He bought land at Edson in 1903 but when the C.P.R. railroad was built he seems to have moved to Westlock. Michael farmed here till his death.
Michael's father, Valentine was born in Ireland and married his mother in Glenasheen, Kilflynn, Co. Limerick, Ireland and none of their 10 children were born until they got to Canada. An uncle, Joseph Caleb Alton settled in the Ft. Saskatchewan area so that is probably what brought him to Edmonton to begin with.
