Suggested edit:
On his way home from work and carrying groceries home from the grocery store where he worked for the past 8 years, two men followed behind him in a car as he walked along the dark sidewalk. Several witnesses sitting on their porches that night, saw the car pull up next two him and one man jumped out and confronted him. They heard a scuffle between the two men and Holcombe screamed out, just before a gunshot went through his chest. The man in the car got back into it, and they calmly drove away. He died before arriving at Grady Hospital.
The newspaper article on the front page of the Atlanta Constitution the next day reported that his wife was expecting a baby and had not been notified the night of the killing. She evidently went into labor that day because their only child, Robbie Willene, a daughter, was born the day following her father's murder, 17 Aug 1930.
