I met this wonderful lady on my wedding day as she and her husband had made the 5 hour drive to see us. They were long term friends of my in laws and they'd know my husband and his siblings since they were children.

I never met my mother in law as she had already crossed over so Elaine became her "stand in". I loved and respected this woman and she kept me in line and was a listening ear.
She and her husband were shocked and surprised when after 17 or so years of marriage, they had their only child, Frank. He was the light of their lives and he looks a LOT like his mother.

Elaine never had grandchildren but she looks exactly like a typical grandmother.. short and roundish, wearing pearls or beads and a desire to feed people. She was always front and center in the kitchen during the yearly Veterans Appreciation dinners. Wearing her "good dress" with an apron and holding a serving spoon- directing traffic and always smiling.

Elaine ran the kitchen @ the Hermiston VFW post for many years until age caught up with her and I eventually took it over. It will always be the "Elaine Martin memorial kitchen" to me.

She once was telling me about her 70th High School reunion and if any more classmates died, they could hold it in a broom closet- That was her humor.

She will be lovingly laid to rest next to her husband, Clarence who preceded her in death in 2001.
