Elliot E. Griffin, born 13 Dec 1854, Ashtabula Co., OH, is the son of James B. Griffin and Harriet Sharp, and later, the stepson of Emeline (Davis) Griffin. He is named after his uncle Elliot Griffin. He is in the 1860 US Census for Morgan, Ashtabula Co., OH, at age 5.

Birth order of Elliot and his siblings:
Arvilla Orvilla Griffin Carpenter,
Rose Griffin,
Juliette A. Griffin,
(Elliot belongs here),
Martha Carpenter, and
Orville A. Griffin.

On March 20, 1883 in Otoe Co., NE, Elliot E. Griffin married Sarah Viola Huffman. Sarah was born 29 April 1864 in Harrison Co. MO, and she is his step-cousin. Sarah was the daughter of Eunice Burns and Isaac Huffman, according to her Michigan death certificate, dated 22 Aug 1927, Traverse City, Grand Traverse Co. Eunice Burns, however, married Elliot's uncle, Albert E. Griffin in Gentry, Gentry Co., MO, in 1863, before Sarah was born, and therefore is found by the name "Sarah Griffin," before she was married to Elliot E. Griffin.

[One possible explanation, is the Civil War was going on at this time. Albert E. Griffin and James B. Griffin, brothers, were Union soldiers of the 14th Independent Battery, Ohio Light Artillery. Albert E. Griffin, age 32, married Eunice Burns, age 15. [RESEARCH IS NEEDED: Did Isaac Huffman participate in the Civil War, and why did Albert Griffin marry Eunice Burns in Gentry, Gentry Co., MO?]

1885 Iowa Census: Benton, Fremont Co., IA , Elliot E. Griffen, 30, worked for the Railroad. Sara Griffen, 21, b. 1864 MO, married, Children listed as Francis-2, Esther-infant.

Children of Elliot E. and Sarah (7, 6 living in 1900):
Francis Frank M. Griffin, b. 1882
Edith Esther Griffin, 1884-1976
Orva E. Griffin, 1886-1963
Franklin E. Griffin, 1889-?
