Mr. Akins was born Dec. 12, 1927 in Muskogee, Okla., to Arthur and Della Lee Hale Akins. He was a retired engineer and member of St. George Episcopal Church in Laguna Hills, Calif. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife Elisabeth Akins of Crossville; daughter, Michelle Jeannette Wood of Centreville, Va.; son, Gregory John Akins of Lake Forrest, Calif.; granddaughter, Margaret Elisabeth Wood; sisters, Jerushia Gernt of Crossville, Gweldia Gannon of Diamond Bar, Calif., Nancy Dodgens of Goose Creek, S.C., Kitty Hale of Crossville; brothers, Donald Akins, Thomas Akins, James Robert Akins and Charlie Akins, all of Crossville.
