He was retired from Bland Correctional Center as a Lieutenant with 31 1/2 years service, was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Wesendonck United Methodist Church, loved to fish, enjoyed traveling and yard sales was his favorite activity.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda M. Blankenship; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lionel and Diane Blankenship, Bland, Kris and Crissy Blankenship, Bland; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny and Bonnie Blankenship, Bland, Jerry Blankenship, Bland, Keith Blankenship, Charlotte, N.C., Kyle (Bucky) and Pam Blankenship, Narrows; two sisters, Debra Wolfe, Bland, Mary Stanley, Pulaski; five grandchildren, Kimberly, Karrie, Kathryn, Leland Blankenship and Nate Houseman.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, Va. with the Rev. Danny Shortridge and the Rev. Wayne Monroe officiating. Burial in the Mountain Field Cemetery, Hollybrook.
