WAPAKONETA - Auglaize County's fifth traffic fatality of the year occurred at 3:10 a.m. today when a car traveling south on County Rod 25-A veered into a ditch near the Auglaize River Bridge, a quarter of a mile north of here.
Jack M. Werner, 32, of 302 W. Plum, was dead at the scene according to Dr. Robert J. Herman, acting Auglaize County coroner. Death was attributed to internal injuries.
Sheriff's deputies, who said Werner was alone in the car, reported the southbound vehicle went off the left side of the road and rolled over after crashing into the ditch.
Born here Jan. 31, 1940, he was the son of James and Jamie Werner. He married Patty L. Wildermuth and she survives.
Also surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Frazier of here; three daughters, Peggy, Tina and Jacqueline, all at home; a son, James, at home; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Gerstner of here and Virginia Gerstner at home; a stepson, Mark Gerstner, at home; two brothers, Jerry Werner of Lima and Joseph Werner, in Alabama; a half-sister, Norma, in Lima; a half-brother, Dwight Werner of Sidney; and a stepsister, Karen Frazier, of here.
Mr. Werner was a roofer employed by the E. R. Roofing Co.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Siferd Funeral Home, Rev. William Medford officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
