Ione Lowry Harrell
The Lowry Family mourns with great sorrow the passing of their beloved sister, Ione Lowry Harrell. Daughter of John Charles Lowry and Ella Mae Peterson, she was born Frieda Ione in Texas City, Texas, on August 20, 1910. She survived two brothers and a sister, Emmett F. Lowry and Charles W. Lowry of Texas City, and Mrs. Milton J. (Alma Mae) Vidrine of Houston.

She attended Texas City High School and was graduated with the class of 1928. In 1932, she married Eddy C. Harrell of Newton, Texas. They lived briefly in Galveston and then in Texas City, taking up permanent residence in La Marque in 1945. Eddy was a Foreman of Refining Operations for American Oil Company (presently BP Amoco), and Ione was a beauty shop owner and beautician until her retirement in 1978.

She was an active and contributing member of the First Baptist Church of La Marque, where she taught Sunday school and served as Chairwoman of the Flowers and Garden Committee.

Her greatest earthly treasures were her husband, her children, her devoted brothers and sisters, her nurturing Church community, and the affection of her beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family, all of whom fondly recall "Aunt Ione's" cheese straws, crescent dinner rolls, and pecan fudge--always accompanied with her warm smile and kind words.

Pink and blue were her favorite colors; roses were her favorite flowers. Her favorite food was chocolate, and her most favorite place to be was near the beautiful Gulf Coast of Texas.

Her younger sister, Mrs. J. T. Weatherall (Adine Schroeder) of Texas City; son Gordon Lowry Harrell of New York City; and daughter Mrs. James W. Hale (Frieda Faye) of Houston survive her.

The family will be receiving friends at Emken Linton Funeral Home in Texas City from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2006. Ione's life will be remembered and celebrated at the First Baptist Church of La Marque at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2006. She will then join her husband and departed family members at final rest in Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery, Hitchcock. A private graveside service will be held.

Among her final wishes were that flowers not be sent, rather a contribution be made to the First Baptist Church of La Marque, or to a charity of your choice.
