A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late D. Claude and Frances Battle Hughes.
She had lived in Charlotte for over 40 years where she was the secretary for the Charlotte Fire Department for over 20 years. She was a very compassionate and generous woman who will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband James Cochran, her sister Wilma Boyer and by a brother, DC Hughes Jr.
She is survived by her sister- Shirley Henson and her husband Carroll of Sylva
Nephews- Gary and Scott Boyer, David and Bryan Hughes
Nieces- Tammy and Cassie Stewart, Debbie Smith
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday November 4, in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Josh Blythe officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 pm prior to the Service at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Thomas Memorial Cemetery in Qualla.
