His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, April 29, 1921.

The aged and venerable John S. Morgan died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Amanda Ungashick in Brewster. Owing to his advanced age he had been in feeble health for some time, but his mind was clear to the end and he was not bedfast, being able to be up and around. The body was brought to Carrollton for burial at noon, Monday, and was laid to rest in the family burial lot in Grandview Cemetery, Rev. James H. Hawk conducting the services.
For 60 years John S. Morgan was in business in Carrollton making and repairing boots and shoes. He was born in Clinton, Allegheney Co., Pa., October 22, 1831. When he was quite young his parents moved to Fox Township, Carroll County. He was twice married, his first wife being Eliza Decker. Two children of this marriage survive -- Mrs. John Shaw of Coshocton and Scott E. Morgan of Canton. His second wife, whose maiden name was Mary Black, died in 1901. Three children born to this union survive; Mrs. Frank P. Boegel of Cleveland, James Morgan of Carrollton and Mrs. Charles Ungashick of Brewster.
Few men were gifted with a rugged constitution as was John S. Morgan. U to six years ago he worked daily at the shoe-maker's bench. Five years ago he retired and went to live with his daughter in Brewster, spending the summer with his daughter, Mrs. Beogel in Cleveland. He was a great hearted man whose sympathy went out to the afflicted and distressed, and his aid was always forthcoming to the sick and helpless. His good works follow him.
In addition to the children named, Mr. Morgan is survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was the last survivor of a family of three brothers and two sisters. In politics he was a sterling Democrat and at one time was the nominee for sheriff in this county.
