Funeral services for 90 year old Velma Huey of Manilla, formerly of Irwin, will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, November 2nd at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin. Velma passed away on Wednesday, October 30th in Manilla. Survivors include her husband, Glen B. Huey of Manilla; 3 sons: Marlin (Barbara) Huey of Ankeny; Roger (Janet) Huey of Anita; Tom (Delores) Huey of Kimballton; 2 daughters: Rosemary (Charles) Chisholm of Charlottesville, VA; Sherri McQuaid of LaVista, NE; 12 Grandchildren; 11 Great-Grandchildren; other relatives and friends. VELMA R. HUEY, 90, of Manilla (& formerly of Irwin), died Wed., Oct. 30th, in Manilla. Funeral services for VELMA HUEY will be held 2:30-p.m. Sat., Nov. 2nd, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2- until 9-pm Fri., Nov. 1st, with the family present to greet friends from 4-to 6-pm.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Irwin.

VELMA HUEY is survived by:

Her husband – GLen B. Huey, of Manilla.

Her sons – Marlin (Barbara) Huey, of Ankeny; Roger (Janet) Huey, of Anta, & Tom (Delores) Huey, of Kimballton.

Velma Rose Huey, the daughter of Roy S. and Fern (Bailey) Hiatt, was born on July 26, 1923, in Irwin, Iowa. She was raised and lived in the Irwin area her entire life, and was a member of the 1942 Irwin High School graduating class. On February 14, 1948, Velma married Glen B Huey at the Methodist Church in Irwin. The couple farmed northeast of Irwin until 1974 when they moved into town. Velma was a homemaker and worked as a cook for several Irwin cafes and the Irwin Senior Center. She also helped care for the elderly. Velma became a resident of the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa, in August 2012.

Velma was a member of the Irwin United Methodist Church, where she had been active with the church women. She was also a member of the Irwin VFW Auxiliary. Velma enjoyed cooking and baking cinnamon rolls and donuts, and she and Glen liked to square dance.

Velma R. Huey died on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the Manilla Manor, Manilla, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 4 days.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Edna Mohr; one infant brother, Max Hiatt; one infant sister, Edith Pearl Hiatt; three stepbrothers, Chester Mohr, Raymond Hiatt, and Ronald Hiatt; one stepsister, Priscilla Ferryman; and one son, Glen Leroy Huey. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Glen B Huey of Manilla, Iowa; three sons, Marlin (Barbara) Huey of Ankeny, Iowa, Roger (Janet) Huey of Anita, Iowa, and Tom (Delores) Huey of Kimballton, Iowa; two daughters, Rosemary (Charles) Chisholm of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Sherri McQuaid of La Vista, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, with Rev. Ted Sieck of the Irwin Church of Christ, Irwin, Iowa, officiating. Casket bearers were Sara Huey, Eric Huey, Cody Clark, Seth Huey, Roger Huey, and Dan McQuaid. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Irwin, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Myrtue Medical Center Hospice.
